Petrosino

A small municipality between Marsala and Mazara del Vallo, it lies on a flat area that opens up to the sea and is especially crowded in the summertime, when the beaches of Torrazza, Biscione and Sibiliana fill up with vacationers. The area’s economy is mainly based on summer tourism and the wine sector. Near the sea you will see the Sibiliana Tower, a quadrangular-shaped coastal tower used in the past both to facilitate fishing operations and to defend against pirate assaults, stand. In the main square is Maria S.S. delle Grazie, a church with a Latin cross plan built in the mid-1700s. From the late 1700s onward, the increasing international prominence of Marsala wine and the trade associated with it contributed in no small way to the development of the area. Characteristic are the Bagli that landowners built for carrying out agricultural activities. Each was equipped with large courtyards, patron’s house and numerous warehouses of various uses. Among the most relevant: Baglio Spanò, Baglio Basile and Baglio Don Federico. Since 1980 it ceased to be a hamlet of Marsala and became an autonomous municipality.
