Salaparuta

Salaparuta is a very small urban center located on a slope 200 meters above sea level. The earliest records of it date back to 1100 A.D. but it was not until around the 16th century that it saw a fair amount of population and urban growth. Salaparuta ‘s economy is based on agricultural activity. Salaparuta Doc red and white wines have been produced here since 2006. The main monument is the Mother Church in which the 15th-century statue representing St. Catherine is kept. On Easter Sunday morning, thencuntru (theMeeting) takes place, or the sacred representation of the reunion between the Madonna and the risen Christ. A child plays the character of Archangel Michael who announces to Mary the Resurrection of her Son. Only at this point, in a joyful atmosphere, are the simulacra of Christ and the Madonna brought closer to each other.
