The city - Alcamo
On a tableland, at the foot of Monte Bonifato, at the centre of Castellammare Gulf, you find the birth-place of an excellent wine, a D.O.C.(Controlled Denomination of Origin) white one, just called Bianco d’Alcamo. And, probably, it is also the birth-place of the famous Cielo d’Alcamo, a poet nothing is surely known about, except for he wrote the “contrasto” in 32 strophes Rosa Fresca Aulentissima, one of the first writings by means of Italian made itself know as a poetical language. The geographic position of Alcamo, since past centuries, has made it become the centre of trade thick system. Till to-day the town is characterized as active rural centre and industrial pole. The luxuriant wood on the top of Bonifato Mount, inhabited since most ancient times, is today an Oriented Natural Reserve.
