Trapani

A few words to describe Trapani, a lovely place rich in history. A provincial capital, it is a city with a valuable environmental and cultural heritage. It rises in a flat area that stretches close to the sea. It ends with two peaks occupied respectively by the Tower of Ligny, built in 1671 and from which there is an enchanting view of the city and the Egadi Islands, and by a lazaretto, now the headquarters of the local branch of the Italian Naval League. Not far away, in the middle of the sea, the Colombaia, or “Sea Castle” one of the symbols of the city. Various are the specialties of the area, such as wine, capers, garlic, oranges, and oil, and the cuisine is incomparable and unusual, with that magical flavor. Among the best-known dishes is the fish Cùscusu. And also admirable are the noble traditions that continue to be handed down through the centuries, examples of which are the religious festivals, local coral and ceramic handicrafts.
