Bonagia & Bonton - Valderice
The maritime village of Bonagia, now well-known as a tourist resort and thanks to its small tourist port, just a few years ago was the center of a frenetic activity centred on the fishing of the bluefin tuna of the Mediterranean. His big ancient tonnara dating back to the second half of the thirteenth century was some years ago one of the few ones still active.
Today the tonnara is a hotel. Inside the Hotel La Tonnara there is a small Museum where there are all the tools and the archaeological findings to know something more on this activity that was very important for the village.
Bonton: the fair of the tuna and the products of tonnara
The importance of the tuna fishing for this area is confirmed by Bonton, the oenogastronomic fair dedicated to the bluefin tuna and its by-products.
Meetings, conferences, tasting time and live cooking allow the participants to know and eat the bluefin tuna of the Mediterranean, a very high-quality product, that here is processed to produce a lot of by-products: botargo, tuna bresaola, smoked tuna, lattume and much more...
Every year there are also a lot of local producers that allow you to taste other typical products of the area. This fair was founded recently but its importance and appreciation grown each year more and more.
