St. Joseph’s dinners

On the day dedicated to S. JosephMarch 19, altars are set up in honor of the saint, called “St. Joseph‘s Dinners.”

These are richly decorated with oranges, lemons, laurel twigs and especially with characteristic breads that are crafted by local women into true works of art.

The loaves have very varied shapes that evoke the main motifs of pagan and Christian symbolism: flowers, fruits, animals and whatnot.

The preparation of the altars is very heartfelt among the people and occupies them for several weeks prior to the feast day.

On the morning of March 19, a banquet is prepared for the Holy Family, impersonated by the children of the town. The children, accompanied by a band, arrive at the altar where a bountiful banquet with numerous courses awaits them.

You will be able to see the Dinners as early as a few days before the feast of St. Joseph and throughout the following week.
